"Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth."
— Henry David Thoreau
Christopher Mccandless was created for the entire world that is living in a time of unprecedented challenge and opportunity. May your understanding and acceptance that free will is an illusion help you navigate all you will face not from a place of divisive blame, seething hatred, poisonous envy, or deadly retribution.....but from a place of compassion, understanding, cooperation, and from a more evolved state of consciousness grounded in undeniable and unflinching truth. Make no mistake about it – the belief in free will is false and very harmful.
If you were born Chris Mccandless of the movie INTO THE WILD, you would have been Christopher Mccandless and walked INTO THE WILD and would have felt and acted the same exact way (his nature and nurture). You too would have walked INTO THE WILD. You too would have died there (if you were born him). You would have had Chris Mccandless' same exact desires, knowledge, intelligence, and consciousness and you wouldn't have been able to do or be otherwise. The false belief in free will desperately needs to be challenged and eventually put to rest once and for all (it's about time and long overdue).
Once we all understand that there is no such thing as free will, we can still fear people, but we will no longer be able to logically hate other people (and therefore no longer deeply blame someone for their actions no matter how irresponsible they may appear to be). I know many people have criticized Chris Mccandless' Into The Wild journey as being irresponsible, callous, unprepared, arrogant, and too idealistic, but he could not have done otherwise. Christopher Mccandless was who he was and if you were born Christopher Mccandless, you would have been Christopher Mccandless. He could not have done otherwise. Plain and simple.
To tell another person what they should or should not have done in any give situation (and with the benefit of hindsight) is completely incoherent because you are not privy to that other person's unique version of the pleasure principle.
Christopher Mccandless was all about the discovery of truth and beauty in the world and this is why his name is being linked to this great truth being revealed here on this website – which is.
HUMAN BEINGS DO NOT HAVE FREE WILL! Christopher Mccandless was completely compelled by everything that had ever happen to him previously and his genetics (nature and nurture) to do what he did. Free will is nowhere to be found. Amen.
He was a slave to his own personal and unique version of the pleasure principle. We all are. We have no choice in the matter.
Not being forced by another human being to do something or wanting to do something all on our own does not give mankind free will. So even though Christopher Mccandless hiked into the wild without anyone forcing him to do so still does not give him (or anyone for that matter) free will.
Yes people make choices. They just aren't "free" choices. Free meaning independent of one's nature and nurture (genetics and environment).
We can choose our desires but we cannot control or choose what we desire. We can choose our preferences but we cannot control or choose what we prefer. We can choose our wants but we cannot control of choose what we want. Amen.
I am quite sure if Christopher Mccandless were alive today, he'd be quite happy to know there is a website equally devoted to the truth about reality as he was.
This is why Chris McCandless often quoted his favorite author Thoreau ...
